Hammond is the proud home of Southeastern Louisiana University, the state’s third-largest public university. Located at the eastern end of the city, the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport is a public-use, joint civil-military, general aviation airport. It provides key transportation support for local business people and civil servants, as well as a recreational outlet for travelers, pilots, and aircraft enthusiasts. The airport is home to the newly-reestablished and highly anticipated Hammond Northshore Regional Airshow.

Chappapeela Sports Park provides the finest recreational facilities and programs in the area, hosting organized youth and adult sports such as softball, baseball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, and more. A splash pad, playgrounds, and a 1.5 mile pet-friendly walking trail are offered as well.
